From Vision to Voice: Creating a Comprehensive AAC Program: From Vision to Voice is a 6-hour, systems-focused workshop designed to help clinics and districts move beyond device selection and toward building sustainable, team-driven AAC programs. Participants will learn how to establish shared purpose, align teams around evidence-based AAC principles, and create structures that support access, modeling, and daily use across environments. Using real-world case examples, practical tools, and step-by-step implementation guidance, this course supports AAC initiatives that prioritize autonomy, participation, and long-term success.
From Access to Approval: Conducting Meaningful AAC Evaluations: From Access to Approval is a workshop designed to help SLPs confidently plan, conduct, and submit AAC evaluations that result in timely access to appropriate systems. This course demystifies the AAC evaluation process by taking you through the entire process from start to finish. Participants will learn how to gather meaningful data, write defensible evaluation reports, navigate funding requirements, and avoid common pitfalls that delay implementation or result in device denial. Offered as a full or half-day workshop; full day includes building an evaluation template and opportunities for hands on practice. Recommended as an extension to From Vision to Voice; also available as stand-alone.
Getting Started with AAC: Tips, Tricks, and Strategies for Success: Getting started with AAC can be extremely overwhelming, so let us help! This session will introduce participants to a variety of AAC systems and access methods. We will explore how to select the right system, determine an appropriate vocabulary, and acquire a device through an evaluation. In addition, communication partner strategies will be discussed, along with tips on collecting data and monitoring progress.
Effectively Teaching AAC: Beyond the Therapy Session: The teaching of an AAC device goes beyond what a speech pathologist can achieve in a therapy session. Even the most skilled therapist will struggle to achieve authentic communication if certain foundational components are not in place outside the therapy room. This presentation not only looks at ways to improve therapy, but it describes the foundational components necessary to effectively teach AAC and overcome barriers.
Hands on AAC: Supporting Learners with Complex Needs: So, you’ve learned the terms and have equipment, but struggle to create lessons that support AAC users in achieving authentic communication. The experiences of a school and private clinic will demonstrate how the integration of the following three critical tools can be implemented to support the development of a comprehensive therapy plan that supports clients’ communication development in all settings: SETT Framework, AAC Competencies, and the Assessment of Learning Process for AAC. Case studies will illustrate the application of these tools with a variety of users from the initial stages of equipment selection and treatment plan development to progress monitoring.
Assistive Technology in the Classroom: This course offers an in-depth introduction to assistive technology, focusing on its definition, functionality, and transformative impact on the lives of students with disabilities. Participants will explore who benefits from assistive technology, the processes for acquiring it, and its critical role in removing barriers and fostering equal opportunities for children with disabilities. Through a case study approach, the course will provide real-world examples and practical applications of assistive technology in educational settings. The SETT (Student, Environment, Tasks, and Tools) framework will serve as a guiding tool for examining a variety of assistive technologies, illustrating how they can empower students by enhancing access to learning and participation. Additionally, participants will engage in hands-on experiences to explore and interact with various assistive technology tools.
